A plantation of sweet chestnut trees dating from the 19th century, now managed by Brentwood Council. Sweet chestnut was planted to provide rot-resistant timber for fencing and the like. Brentwood Council resumed coppicing in the 1980s, creating a very dense woodland with open glades.
